How Freddie's former fiancee tried to derail 'Love, Freddie' book launch
A Daily Mail article reveals how Freddie Mercury's former fiancee Mary Austin tried to block the publication of 'Love, Freddie' by Lesley-Ann Jones.
Now it can be told. Weeks before 'Love, Freddie' was published, Mary Austin gave an interview to The Sunday Times in which she said she would 'be amazed' if it turned out that Freddie Mercury had fathered a child. She also insisted that he never kept diaries/notebooks. Subsequently, she instructed her lawyers to attempt to prevent publication of my book. Although they tried every which way to do so - even though they had not read it, and had no reason to question either its accuracy or veracity - they were unable to stop it being published.
Since 'Love, Freddie' was released in September, there has been not a single legal challenge. Not a word, no writ, no vehement objection from Mary Austin or her lawyers, Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon or the Queen organisation. Why? Because it contains nothing to which they can possibly object. Nothing but the truth. Freddie Mercury's daughter is who she says she is. Freddie's diaries/notebooks on which the book is based do exist. His only child owns them, because he gave them to her.
It all unravels. Mary gave her exclusive interview to a newspaper owned by News Corp. The publisher of her own forthcoming book based on notebooks left to her by Freddie - even though she insisted in print (as she castigated me and attempted to tear my professional reputation to shreds) that he did not keep notebooks - is owned by News Corp. Her book is officially endorsed by Sony Music, who acquired Queen's music back catalogue and collective creative output recently for a billion pounds. It doesn't take Einstein.
